ASICS Megablast Review: another impressive blast shoe

The ASICS Megablast has just launched, and it could be one of the best running shoes ASICS has ever made. It is one of the brand's bounciest running shoes, functional for various speeds and distances.

The Megablast joins ASICS’ fan-favourite Blast family, which includes the Novablast, Sonicblast, Superblast, and now the Megablast. What makes this family of shoes so popular is that they are considered hybrid daily and up-tempo running shoes, yet they are very comfortable and fun to run in due to the bouncy foam used.

The Megablast, being the most responsive shoe in the family, is positioned and priced as the hero shoe within this range. It utilises a new aliphatic TPU (ATPU) midsole foam called FF TURBO™ SQUARED. With a 45mm/38mm stack height, it offers ample protection for high training loads.

ASICS Megablast Key Stats

  • Stack Height: 45mm / 37mm

  • Heel-to-toe drop: 8mm

  • Weight: 230g / 8.1oz

  • Technologies: FF TURBO²™ cushioning (aliphatic TPU), ASICSGRIP™ outsole rubber

  • Plate: None

  • Best for: Versatile for almost all running, easy to up-tempo

Pros vs Cons

  • Pros: Very lightweight and responsive shoe that can handle almost everything. Good responsive daily running option or comfortable race-day shoe.

  • Cons: Narrow and low volume upper fit, road only use – not recommended to cross terrains. Medium in softness, not as squishy as the Novablast if that’s what you prefer.

Who Should Wear the ASICS Megablast?

The ASICS Megablast is perfect for runners who want to benefit from maximal cushioning and comfort, but with a modern, energy-returning twist that gives the shoe extra bounce. It’s ideal for runs where you want to prioritise responsiveness without stepping into a racing shoe, while still enjoying the flexibility to dial your pace up or down and maintain a natural feel. You’ll likely find that it excels most at up-tempo paces.

It’s also worth considering that this is a great all-in-one shoe (similar to the Superblast) that can handle almost an entire week's worth of running. I would only deter runners from choosing this shoe if you have a wide foot, want a model that can transition to gravel running, or require a shoe that complies with World Athletics’ 40mm stack height limit.

Whether you're gearing up for your next marathon or simply looking for a versatile daily trainer, the Megablast offers a dynamic ride that can keep up with your every stride.
